A grieving therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making major changes in people’s lives – including his own. The cast of “Shrinking” shares the key moments that defined their characters in season 1 and reveals who does the best Harrison Ford impression. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who looked like Ford.

Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least pitch the project to Ford first, thinking he would turn it down outright, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was offered the project, generating interest from other notable actors. In the end, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him on the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was elated nonetheless.
This is pure, simple fun
Concisely written, great one-liners, enough pathos to keep it from becoming Big Bang Theory for the middle class, a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t behave like this, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticism from that perspective is just negativity to lower the rating. Are any of the characters stereotypes?
A complete revelation and worth watching the show for that alone
Yes, but no offense is given and none should be taken, FYI, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype portrayed here. The real success here is in mixing the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages, and walks of life and making it very funny. Finally, who knew Harrison Ford was such a great light comedy actor?
