Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now lives at the Home for Retired Bears.
However, he came up with the idea for this third film and was on board as an executive producer
Paddington in Peru is comfortably the weakest of the trilogy, with Paul King and Simon Farnaby’s absences definitely felt, but this is still a delightful third installment that doesn’t lose heart and brings everything set in the first act to a conclusion, thanks to another satisfying third act.
It’s a consistently fun adventure that never forgets the immigrant story as Paddington tries to come to terms with his past
Hugh Bonneville is really funny when he tries to be braver and Emily Mortimer is a worthy replacement, even if Sally Hawkins is missing.
Antonio Banderas gets to do it all
Dial of Destiny stopped him from having a ball while he’s doing it, and Olivia Colman’s performance as the dubious singing nun is another big highlight, with some new inventiveness and a few well-placed references to other films.
There’s plenty of slapstick here, as usual, and it always peaks in unexpected ways
The CGI is pushed to an unprecedented level, making it all the more impressive that the effects that bring Paddington to life rarely falter despite the sheer amount of CG this time around.
