Skye Riley: [Entite Smile] You’re out of control, me!
Story
Global pop sensation Skye Riley, who embarks on a world tour, begins to experience increasingly terrifying and unexplained events. Overwhelmed by the mounting horrors and pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her past. The scar on Skye’s knee is shaped like a smile. In one scene, Skye sets a VOSS water bottle on a stone/marble kitchen counter and a sound is heard that sounds like something plastic being put down. VOSS water bottles are made of glass, which is emphasized in the film, making the sound incongruous with the action. .
How wrong I was
Appears in the 7PM Project: Episode October 17, 2024 (2024). For “Entite Smile 2” I didn’t have high hopes. It seemed like a one-movie concept and nothing more. This movie took the above-average horror of the original and promised to improve on it in every way. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a popcorn horror, but a top-quality popcorn horror. Jumps rarely do anything for me these days.
But her character was done quite well
It made me jump out of my seat a few times. I have to say though – it was the loudest jump I’ve ever heard in a movie theater. Even if the scares weren’t working, the noise itself could be quite jarring. I’m not entirely sure if it was the volume in my theater or the sound mix. When we met the main character, and she was a pop star, I was worried that she would be hard to root for. Real pop stars haven’t exactly become the most likable people in the last few decades.
She was flawed, but also very likeable and relatable
I have to admit that Naomi Scott’s great performance helped. A good opening scene in a horror movie has become a lost art. It’s important to engage the audience from the start and set the standard. Many modern horrors forget this, but this film doesn’t. The opening scene was great and really kicked off the film. The film is quite long for a horror film, clocking in at over 2 hours long.
But it never did, and it even bogged down towards the end, which I was really worried it wouldn’t
That’s an ambitious demand to maintain quality for such a long time, and I kept wondering when it would all fall apart. I never thought I’d be writing this, but Smile 2 is a contender for one of the best horror films of 2024. 9.5/10.
