A24 saw the script and greenlit the film before production on “X” had even wrapped
Story
In 1979, a group of young filmmakers decide to make an adult film on a rural Texas farm, but when their elderly, reclusive hosts catch them in the act, the crew finds themselves fighting for their lives. The day after X (2022) premiered at South by Southwest, writer/director Ti West revealed that during a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine at his New Zealand hotel before production on this film could begin, he wrote a prequel, Pearl (2022). He asked star Mia Goth if she wanted to stay in New Zealand and film “Pearl,” and she readily agreed.

well, I won’t give it away, but it’s beautiful and terrifyingly creepy at the same time! Add to all of this some very funny dialogue and events at the beginning, and you have a well-made, old-school horror film that may not be life-changing, but is definitely entertaining for those who can appreciate this type of film (like me!). A24 has produced some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
